HKMA Gallery tour of the exhibition ‘The World of the Etruscans’


Dr. Giuseppina Cianferoni, Director of the Archaeological National Museum of Florence, will give a gallery talk. The exhibition presents 235 fascinating pieces dated from the 9th century BC to the 1st century BC in the region of Italy known today as Tuscany – including terracotta figures, pottery items, canopic urns, stone sculptures, sarcophagi, bronze ware as well as jewellery.

This exhibition is organized by the Office of the Superintendent for the Archeological Heritage of Tuscany, Florence, Department for Culture and the Centre for Promotion and Services, Arezzo, in cooperation with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate General of Italy. It runs from 9 June to 10 September 2006.

Visit to the Mosque & Islamic Centre in Tsimshatsui

The Friends will visit the Mosque and Library at Jamia Masjid Islamic Centre. The Imam of the Mosque will talk to us on the tenets of Islam, the history of the Islamic religion and the concept of holy war. Maximum 25 persons.

Visit to the Min Chiu Society on Bowen Road

Established in 1960 by a group of collectors of Chinese antiquities, the members of Min Chiu Society have been very active in all areas of Chinese art connoisseurship. A special visit to their private gallery and tour has been arranged. Patron & former trustee of the Friends, The Hon. Justice Robert Tang, will be our speaker and guide and our host at dinner. Maximum 20 persons.

Gallery Tour of the exhibition in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the School of Professional and Continuing Education, University of Hong Kong

The School of Professional and continuing Education, HKU is the first school that provided diversified art education in Hong Kong. Throughout the years, it has trained many professional artists, designers and educators.  This exhibition features the works in ink and western media by teachers and artists from the school, including Gaylord Chan, Chu Hing Wah, Laurence Tam, Wucius Wong, and others. It runs from 25 June to 30 June 2006.

The HKMA Chief Curator, Mr Tang Hoi Chiu, will give the Friends a private guided tour and afterwards we will meet the artists.

Visit to the Ohel Leah Synagogue in Mid-Levels

Rabbi Jackson has kindly invited our members to visit the Ohel Leah Synagogue, and will speak about the Jewish faith and the culture of their community. Our visit will be followed by a Kosher meal at their dining room. Maximum 30 persons.

HKMA Gallery tour of the exhibition ‘Modern Chinese Paintings from the Xubaizhai Collection’

This new display features works selected from the Xubaizhai Collection dated from the mid-19th century onwards. Artists represented Ren Yi, Wu Changshuo, Qi Baishi, Huang Binhong, Xu Beihong, Pu Ru, Zhang Daqian, as well as Deng Fen, Ding Yangyong and Peng Ximing.
