Public Lecture by Dr. John Curtis for the "Treasures of the World's Cultures" exhibition from the British Museum

To mark the exhibition "Treasures of the World's Cultures", Dr. John Curtis of the British Museum has agreed to present a public lecture entitled "A Museum of the World for the World" on 15th September 2007 (Saturday) from 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. at the Lecture Hall, Basement, Hong Kong Museum of Art.

Founded in 1753, the British Museum is renowned for its collection of world cultural relics. Dr. Curtis is the Senior Keeper of the Department of Middle East at the British Museum and he will speak about the current exhibition.  Attendance is free but seats are limited, so please reserve ahead.

Gallery Tour of the exhibition of Paintings by Nancy Chu Woo at the HKU Museum

The exhibition is organized by the University Museum and Art Gallery of the University of Hong Kong (12 September - 7 October 2007), and features recent paintings and drawings by Hong Kong artist Nancy Chu Woo. Nancy's paintings combine an Impressionistic use of colours with multi-layered wash techniques and Chinese media. Paintings featured include landscapes, still life, human figures and abstract works executed in oil, ink and gouache.

Ms Nancy Chu Woo has kindly agreed to give a personal guided tour for members

Gala Evening in Celebration of the Hong Kong Museum of Art's 45th Anniversary and the Friends' 15th Anniversary

Coinciding with the exhibition "Treasures of the World's Cultures" from the British Museum, the Friends are hosting a Gala Evening in celebration of the Museum's 45th Anniversary and the Friends' 15th Anniversary.  The evening will begin with a cocktail reception and viewing of the exhibition at the Museum, followed by dinner and an art auction.  Members are invited to attend the celebrations and help support the Museum's future success. This is a special evening not to be missed!  Make your reservation early as tickets are going fast!

Gallery Tour of the exhibition "Ethereal Elegance: Procelain Vases of the Imperial Qing Factory from the Huai Hai Tang collection" at the Art Museum of CUHK

The exhibition is organized by the Chinese University Art Museum and will feature the impressive Huai Hai Tang collection of porcelain vases and bottles from the Qing Imperial Factory in Jingdezhen.  The porcelain vases had been the subject of the pastime enjoyments of the Qing Emperors. The exhibition will be held in the East Wing Galleries of the Art Museum of the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 11 November 2007 to February 2008.

Mr. Anthony Cheung of the Min Chiu Society will give us a personal tour of his collection.

Transportation : A bus will leave Central at 9:00am sharp and also stop at the Kowloon Tong KCR/MTR. The bus will leave the CUHK for Central at approximately 12pm, with a drop-off in Kowloon Tong.
