Talk on Glass in the Qing Dynasty

Two distinguished collectors, Andrew K F Lee and Humphrey K F Hui will give a talk on the subject of the development of glass in the Qing Dynasty. The talk will cover glass objects ranging from vases, scholars’ desk items, snuff bottles and ornamental pieces of the period, from the perspective of light and colour. This event is jointly presented with the Oriental Ceramic Society. Details >

HKMA Gallery tour of the exhibition 'Early 20th Century Guangdong Painting'

This extensive exhibition features early 20th century Guangdong paintings from the Museum’s collection, and provides a new thematic and historical approach to Guangdong art.

Combined tour of 2 exhibitions in Shatin: ' Shanghai Artists : The Yu Garden
Collection' at the Chinese University Art Museum, and ' Enlightening
Trivialities - Ancient Chinese Pastimes' at the HK Heritage Museum

The Chinese University (CUHK) exhibition showcases 30 paintings and 20 pieces of calligraphy from the Yu Garden, featuring eminent Shanghai artists and their unique styles of the late Qing to modern periods.
The Heritage Museum exhibition features a variety of ancient Chinese forms of recreation. A selection of 115 artifacts from the National Museum of China trace the development of ancient music, dance, acrobatics, operatic arts, hunting and the sports of our ancestors. Families with children are welcome.

Date & Time: Saturday, 20 May 2006, 10am to 2pm (in Cantonese)
Cost: Members $180, guests $200, students $80, reservation required
Lunch : Lunch at the Heritage Museum Tea House included
Transportation: A bus will take the group from Queen’s Pier, Central leaving at 9:15am sharp with a further pick up point at Kowloon Tong, to the Art Museum, CUHK. About 11am, the group will transfer to HK Heritage Museum by a bus. After lunch, the bus will leave the Heritage Museum for Central at approximately 2pm, with a drop-off in Kowloon Tong.

27 May - Korea Tour

Korea --- The Land of Morning Calm

This tour to Korea will take place during the Tuen Ng festivities to observe how Gangneung celebrates the festival in rigid but elaborate Confucian rituals, without the dragon boats. The tour will also encompass numerous important cultural sites and places where the traditional Korean way of life can be witnessed. Among the highlights is the city of Gyeongju which is virtually an open air Museum in which the spectacular architecture and other splendors of the Silla culture are on display.

As we shall be travelling during Bhutan's festive season, flights and hotel rooms are very limited, so we require a non-refundable deposit of $3,000 per person before the booking deadline of 15 May 2006. Full payment will be required one month before departure. Bookings are on a first come first served basis.  The tour is open to members of the Friends of the Hong Kong Museum of Art and their accompanying friends.
