Visit to Dr. Sun Yat-sen Museum

Dr. Joseph Ting, The Chief Curator of Hong Kong Museum of History, who is also entrusted with the task of setting up the new Dr. Sun Yat-sen Museum at Kom Tong Hall, has invited the Friends for a pre-opening visit at 2 pm on Mon.

4th Dec. The Museum is scheduled to officially open on 11th Dec. The Curators are now busy arranging special preferential visits for different groups such as the District Councillors, Museum Donors and descendants of Ho Kom Tong, etc. The Friends are most privileged to have been given this rare opportunity of a pre-opening visit. Dr. Ting will also personally guide us through the exhibits within this magnificent historic building. 

In view of time constraint, we ask members to kindly reply promptly to this invitation by filling out the attached registration form and submitting it to our executive secretary Priscilla Lau by Sat. 2nd Dec.

Gallery Tour of the exhibition “Art and Imitation in China” at the University Museum of HKU
 

The Oriental Ceramic Society and The HKU Museum are jointly presenting an exhibition “Art and Imitation in China”. The curator of HKU Museum, Ms Tina Pang, will lead us through the exhibition. This exhibition features over 200 exhibits from the Shang period (c.1600 – c.1050 BCE ), and later archaic examples, ceramic vessels and sculpture, works of art in jade, cloisonne, glass, wood and bamboo, as well as ink and oil paintings. Contemporary art is also included to show the influence of twentieth century art on post – 1989 artists. And many of the objects have never been on view to the public before. Following the tour there will be a tea tasting at the museum tea gallery.

Visit to the 5th International Ink Painting Biennial of Shenzhen
 

The mission of the International Ink Painting Biennial of Shenzhen is the presentation of an assembly of contemporary works by artists from China and elsewhere who, by exploring new concepts, are enriching ink painting’s spiritual heritage.  This year’s exhibition is divided into four sections. Prof. Yan Shanchun (嚴善錞教授) will conduct a guided tour for us. Prof. Yan is currently the Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Painting Academy, the Academic Director of the Shenzhen International Ink Painting Biennial
The trip will include visiting the following venues:

1. Design and Ink Painting - Guan Shanyue Museum of Art (關山月美術館)
2. Ink Painting, Life & Taste - He Xiangning Museum of Art (何香凝美術館)
3. Heritage of Brushwork & Ink Painting - Shenzhen Fine Art Institute (深圳畫院)
4. National Metropolis Ink Painting - Shenzhen Museum of Art (深圳美術館)

Tour jointly organized with the Asia Art Archive and the Ink Society

Meet at Queen’s Pier at 8:45am, return to Queen’s Pier at 7:30pm

Cost :

Members and guests $680
(Tour price includes coach transfer, lunch at a local restaurant, and group insurance.
