In 2010, the Friends launched The Sound of Art — a successful music series at the Hong Kong Museum of Art.   Held on the first Sunday of every month in the Museum foyer, the concert series features local musicians performing classical works by Chinese and Western composers.   The concerts are free and open to the public and feature vocal as well as instrumental ensemble performances.

 

The Friends also organize numerous programmes and events for students, including the sponsorship of free bus transportation for schools and other community groups to attend exhibitions at the Museum.

 

In addition, the Friends sponsor a Summer Art Cadets programme for children from underprivileged backgrounds.  Last summer, students explored comics as an art form under the guidance of teachers and students from the Baptist University Academy of Visual Arts.

 

This year, the “Summer Art Cadets 2011” programme provided students with an opportunity to experience their lives in a creative and interesting fashion by exploring a wide range of creative art media.  Students learned about painting, stop-motion animation, blue-print photography, light-painting, plaster casting and other mixed-media as a channel of expression.
