We were founded in 1991. One of our objectives is to promote the activities of the Hong Kong Museum of Art and to enhance interest in the visual arts within the Hong Kong community.

In 1996, the Friends have assisted the Museum in its acquisition of Huang Binhong's handscroll " Crisp Air Over Lakes and Mountains".

This handscroll is one of the finest works of the renowned master and a fine example of classical Chinese handscroll.

In 1997, the Friends sponsored the "Egyptian Treasures from the British Museum" exhibition by arranging free transport to local students. This Transportation Sponsorship Scheme has enabled thousands of students, many of them from under-privileged background, to visit the Museum for the first time.

We hope that, with your help, we can continue with this and develop other kinds of support to the public and the Museum.

Joining the Friends will give you special access to our collections and major works of Chinese paintings and calligraphy, Chinese antiquities, historical pictures, and other works from Hong Kong, China, and the rest of the world.

You will be able to join our tours to visit museums, art galleries, and studios, both local and overseas, with like-minded people.

We are located in the Friends' Room in the basement of the Hong Kong Museum of Art
